Nepali Congress Proposes Term Limits for Prime Minister and Chief Ministers in Election Manifesto

Kathmandu. The Nepali Congress has proposed setting tenure limits for the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers. The proposal, included in the manifesto prepared for the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21, stipulates that an individual can serve as Prime Minister or Chief Minister only twice.

Speaking at an interaction program titled 'Our Pledge, Your Future' organized in Kathmandu on Thursday, party President Gagan Thapa informed that the manifesto also mentions reducing the number of ministries at the federal and provincial levels.

'It is mentioned in our manifesto that the Prime Minister and Chief Minister can now serve only two terms each,' Thapa said. 'Likewise, our pledge is to establish only 16 ministries at the federal level and 6 at the provincial level. We will absolutely not allow the practice of increasing ministries to accommodate coalition partners.'
