Krishna Bisht Awarded Prestigious Meena Didi Award for Contributions to Education in Baitadi

Baitadi. As a step towards significant contribution in the field of education, the Meena Didi Award this year has been presented to Krishna Bisht of Baitadi. The award, established in the name of Meena Kumari Karki, the first female teacher at Kisan Secondary School in Palpa, carries a prize money of fifty thousand rupees.

The Meena Didi Award, which is presented annually in recognition of significant contributions to social transformation from the education sector across Nepal, was jointly presented by the then Headmaster Basudev Aryal, Patron Dr. Aarti Karki, Member Secretary Umanath Pokharel, School Management Committee Chairman Madhu Parajuli, and Rural Municipality Chairman Yam Chitil during the 65th annual celebration of Kisan Secondary School.

On that occasion, Narayan Rayamajhi remembered his mentor, Meena Didi, and discussed how she became an example by joining the education sector six decades ago, especially for inspiring daughters to pursue education.

The then Headmaster Basudev Aryal mentioned that Meena Didi played a role like a mother for the students.

Krishna Bisht served as a teacher in Baitadi from 2033 BS to 2061 BS. She worked for the reduction of Chhaupadi practices, the rights and welfare of Dalits, indigenous communities, and children, the upliftment of women, the rights of single women, and provided support to poor and marginalized girls in technical education.
