Man Arrested for Allegedly Attacking Police Officer at Pashupatinath Temple During Mahashivaratri

Kathmandu. Police have arrested a young man on charges of attacking a police officer deployed for security at the Pashupatinath Temple on the day of Mahashivaratri. The arrested individual is 25-year-old Rijen Shrestha, a resident of Chhagal, Kathmandu-13, originally from Thuldamar, Makwanpur.

Police launched a search for the accused after a video showing him kicking a police constable while sitting on the fence of the Pashupatinath Temple premises was posted on social media. SSP Ramesh Thapa of the Kathmandu District Police Range told Ratopati that Shrestha has been arrested and an investigation into the incident has begun.

The video also shows the police officer hitting Shrestha with a baton and removing him from the fence after he kicked the officer. On Tuesday, the police had issued a notice appealing to the public for help in identifying the young man.
