Nepali Congress Leader Shekhar Koirala Contests Elections to Protect Constitution and Parliamentary Supremacy

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has stated that he is contesting the House of Representatives election to protect the constitution. While campaigning in Jamunagachhi, Biratnagar-5, under Morang Constituency-6 on Tuesday, leader Koirala said he is entering the election for parliamentary supremacy and freedom.

During an interaction with the general public, leader Koirala warned that if the parliament lacks supremacy, the Congress party will become communist tomorrow. Leader Koirala stated, 'You will send me to parliament for the supremacy of the parliament. If the Congress does not have supremacy in parliament, Congress will become communist, which the general residents of Biratnagar do not want. The political situation of the country is serious. Therefore, I expect everyone to take the election seriously and cast their votes.'

Leader Koirala mentioned the necessity of understanding the issues concerning the new party. Stating that negative narratives and rumors are being spread about the old parties, leader Koirala said, 'It is necessary to dispel the rumors spread by the new party about the old parties. Everyone must be vigilant about this. The country feels further pushed backward after the Gen Z rebellion. That very movement has invited the 2084 election two years early. Therefore, this election is not just an election, but has become a referendum.'

He further commented that family members living abroad are inciting support for a certain party without understanding the situation of their parents residing at home regarding the election and voting. He said, 'I urge those living abroad to understand the situation here. When problems arise at home, it is we who will support the parents. Our party colleagues are working day and night.'

He mentioned that the pace of development in the wards of Biratnagar has accelerated. He stated that the fact that the Financial Commission ranked Biratnagar Metropolitan City first should be a matter of pride, adding that although the Congress led the development of the metropolis, it achieved the top position with the support of the general citizens.

He said, 'Biratnagar has maintained financial good governance. All of us metropolis residents should be proud of this. Look at Kathmandu; it has reached the last position. Kathmandu has failed to maintain good governance, financial transparency, or accountability to the people.'

Despite strong dissatisfaction from locals regarding the delay in the construction of the Hulaki Road from Jamunagachhi towards Sunsari, he stated that the Congress addressed this issue. He clarified that the road was constructed after finding the contractor, who had disappeared because the state failed to make the necessary payments for the road construction.

He said, 'The entire state structure had to be mobilized to complete this road. The problem arose because the state did not pay the contractor.'

Similarly, he stated that embankment construction on the Kesaliya Khola and Budhi Khola rivers is a priority for the development of Biratnagar. Stating that the western areas of Biratnagar, wards numbers 4, 5, 11, and 12, are flooded every year, leader Koirala assured that he would do his utmost to build embankments on the rivers.
