Maha Shivaratri Celebrated with Devotion Across Nepal

Kathmandu. Today, Maha Shivaratri, a major festival for Hindus, is being celebrated across the country with reverence, devotion, and joy. This festival, observed on the fourteenth day of the dark half of the month of Falgun, is considered a day extremely dear to Lord Shiva.

According to Puranas, this festival, commemorating the night of Shiva's manifestation, is described as one of the four major holy nights: Kalratri, Moharatri, Sukhratri, and Shivaratri. This day is especially considered the day that brings forth righteousness in the hearts of beings living a sorrowful, difficult life.  

On the occasion of Maha Shivaratri, the hustle and bustle of ascetics visiting Pashupatinath Temple has increased. Sadhus have lit bonfires in the temple premises, and devotees have been lining up since early morning to have a glimpse of Pashupatinath.
