National Assembly Member Expresses Concern Over Growing Influence of Social Media on Children

Kathmandu. National Assembly member Krishna Prasad Sitaula has expressed concern over the growing influence of social media on children.

During the discussion on the draft report regarding the measurement of the implementation of the Children's Act at the Legislation Management Committee meeting held on Thursday, he stated that clear legal provisions are necessary in Nepal to protect children from negative content.

He mentioned that since social media is open everywhere, children are viewing all sorts of content on mobile phones. He emphasized the need to seriously focus on how to guide them towards positive thinking and how to protect them from negative content.

Citing examples from several countries where mobile use is banned for school-level students, he stated that debate and policy formulation on such issues are necessary in Nepal as well.
