Sri Lanka Dominates Oman by 105 Runs in T20 World Cup Group B Clash

Kandy. Hosts Sri Lanka defeated Oman by a massive margin of 105 runs in a Group B match of the T20 World Cup on Thursday. This is Sri Lanka's second consecutive victory in the tournament. The team had previously defeated Ireland by 20 runs.

Meanwhile, Oman suffered its second consecutive defeat. The team was stunned by Zimbabwe by 8 wickets in the first match. Chasing a huge target of 226 runs at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Oman could only manage 120 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs.

Mohammad Nadeem was the top scorer for the team, contributing 53 runs. He hit 3 fours and 1 six, while Wasim Ali made 27 runs off 20 balls, hitting 3 sixes. Other batters failed to score in double digits.

To restrict Oman cheaply, Maheesh Theekshana took 2 wickets for 11 runs in 4 overs. Dushmantha Chameera also bagged 2 wickets in 2 overs of bowling. Dunith Wellalage, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Kamindu Mendis each took 1 wicket.

Earlier, having lost the toss and opting to bat first, Sri Lanka posted 225 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. However, the team's start was not good. Openers Pathum Nissanka and Kamil Mishara returned to the pavilion after scoring 13 and 8 runs respectively.

After that, Kusal Mendis and Pawan Ratnayake lifted the Sri Lankan innings with a 94-run partnership off 52 balls. Ratnayake scored rapidly, making 60 runs off just 28 balls. He hit 8 fours and 1 six.

Mendis contributed 61 runs off 45 balls, hitting 7 fours. Similarly, Captain Dasun Shanaka played an explosive innings, scoring a half-century off 19 balls before getting out. He hit 2 fours and 5 sixes.
Towards the end of the innings, Kamindu Mendis also added 19 runs off just 7 balls, hitting 1 four and 2 sixes.

For Oman, Jiten Ramandharani took 2 wickets for 41 runs in 4 overs. Meanwhile, Fayyaz Butt and Sufyan Mehmood took 1 wicket each.
