CPN-UML Secretary Demands Impartial Probe into August 23 and 24 Incidents, Vows Accountability

Kathmandu. CPN-UML Secretary and House of Representatives candidate for Kathmandu Constituency No. 4, Dr. Rajan Bhattarai, stated that whoever is responsible for the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24 must be held accountable. Leader Bhattarai emphasized that an impartial investigation into the incidents of both days should be conducted, leading to action against the guilty parties.

Speaking with journalists in Kathmandu on Thursday, Bhattarai asserted that the CPN-UML is not against the legitimate demands raised by the Gen Z generation and stressed the need for an impartial investigation into both incidents.

‘We must salute the demands raised by the peaceful gathering on the morning of Bhadra 23 until the afternoon when people reached the Everest Hotel. We had no disagreement with the demands raised by the youth generation,’ Bhattarai said. ‘Let's investigate from the point where the prohibited zone was breached, leading directly to the attack and arson on the Parliament building.’

Leader Bhattarai stated that the CPN-UML is prepared to accept the consequences if any leader of the party at any level is found guilty in such an investigation.

‘In that investigation, whoever is guilty, if any leader of the CPN-UML at any level is guilty, we are ready to bear that fault. But the investigation must be impartial,’ Bhattarai said. ‘Those innocent children who were taken there under the pretext of a peaceful protest and later used as shields.’

He claimed that there was a strategy to orchestrate the incident of the 23rd through planning and preparation, and then cause destruction on the 24th. Bhattarai also commented that the incident was the most frightening and damaging event since the Sugauli Treaty.
