Bollywood Singer Udit Narayan Faces Legal Complaint From First Wife Over Alleged Forced Hysterectomy

Renowned Bollywood singer Udit Narayan Jha has been drawn into a legal dispute.

His first wife, Ranjana Jha, filed a complaint on Tuesday regarding an issue dating back 30 years.

Ranjana alleges that Udit Narayan, his second wife Deepa, and Udit's own brothers took her to a hospital and had her uterus removed.

Indian media outlets reported that Ranjana, accompanied by her lawyer Karunankant Jha, went to the Indian police station to file the complaint against Udit Narayan.

According to the complaint, Ranjana and Udit Narayan were married according to Hindu tradition on December 7, 1984. At that time, Udit Narayan resided in his home in Nepal.

The charge sheet mentions that he later moved to Mumbai, India, in pursuit of his singing career and married Deepa there as his second wife.

Ranjana claims that in 1996, Udit Narayan, along with his brothers, took her to a hospital in Delhi. She asserts that her uterus was removed at that hospital without her prior knowledge. She mentioned in the complaint that Udit's second wife, Deepa, was also present at the hospital at that time.

Ranjana further alleges that in 2006, when she went to Udit's house in Mumbai, Udit and his second wife verbally abused her and threw her out. After being denied residence at Udit's house in Nepal as well, she stated that she has been living under the shelter of her paternal home.

Previously, Ranjana Jha had filed a case in the Supaul Family Court seeking the restoration of marital rights. Following that, Udit Narayan appeared in the Supaul Family Court in February 2025. At that time, he refused to settle with Ranjana and stated he would fight the case. In his written response, he had said, 'Ranjana is doing all this to extort money from me. She told all lies in court. She did not tell the truth.'
