Nepal Oil Corporation Opens Direct Sales Counter Amid LPG Shortage Complaints

Kathmandu. Following increased complaints about a shortage of cooking gas (LPG) in the market, the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has arranged for direct sales distribution from its Teku office to the general public. The NOC started selling gas by setting up a counter on the premises of its Teku office in Kathmandu after consumers complained about not being able to find gas at dealerships.

According to NOC Spokesperson Manoj Thakur, consumers of Nepal Gas, Everest Gas, and Sugam Gas, which are particularly facing shortages in the market, can obtain gas from Teku.

Spokesperson Thakur stated that the distribution of Nepal Gas has already begun, while counters for Everest and Sugam Gas will also be operational shortly. He said, 'Those who have an urgent need for gas and have not received it from their dealer can bring their empty cylinders to the Teku office and easily obtain gas.'

Amid rumors of an artificial shortage of gas in the market, Spokesperson Thakur claimed that there is no problem with import and supply. He mentioned that gas is being imported according to demand, based on customs data.

Thakur further explained, 'Our monthly consumption is 3 million cylinders. 3 million are in industries, 3 million are in transit, and 3 million are in consumers' homes. However, there is some pressure because consumers are trying to fill the empty cylinders currently in the market all at once. Supply is happening according to regular demand, but there is no 'extra' inventory.'

The NOC has arranged this emergency sales counter to address the grievances of the general public, especially those with only one cylinder, who are suffering the most and facing situations where they have to cry over not getting gas.

General public members who are not receiving gas can contact the Nepal Oil Corporation's Teku office premises with their empty cylinders.
