Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa Asserts Party Can Guarantee Against Future Unrest

Kathmandu. The President of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Thapa, has claimed that only his party can guarantee that Singha Durbar will not be set on fire again.

Speaking at an event in Kathmandu on Saturday, referencing the events of Bhadra 23 and 24, President Thapa asserted that after the upcoming elections, only the Nepali Congress can guarantee that the government will not fire upon citizens or that Singha Durbar will not be burned.

He said, 'We must tell the voters. Let's close our eyes and think—after Falgun 21, Falgun 22 also comes. Bhadra 23 and 24 of next year will also come. But if anyone can guarantee that the government will not fire on citizens at that time, and that Singha Durbar will not be burned again, it is only the Nepali Congress. We take this responsibility. We will do it. Managing the country is our job.'

It is his claim that the Congress will take the responsibility of converting the existing mistrust within the country into confidence.

He said, 'It is our job to turn the mistrust that exists within the country, the mistrust towards each other, into confidence. The Nepali Congress will dialogue with everyone at this time. We dialogue with the youth, we dialogue with the elderly. We dialogue with Madhes, with the hills. We also dialogue with the millions of citizens living outside the country.'
