Corruption Case Against Former Irrigation Department Engineer Scheduled for Hearing at Special Court

The hearing for the corruption case against former Irrigation Department engineer Bishnu Kumar Shrestha has been scheduled. The hearing will take place before a bench comprising Special Court Chairman Sudarshan Dev Bhatta and judges Dilli Ratna Shrestha and Bidur Koirala.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed the corruption case against Shrestha, accusing him of accumulating illegal assets by taking commissions in collusion with contractors during the construction of government structures while holding a public office. The CIAA has demanded the confiscation of assets worth NPR 48.83 million (4 crore 88 lakh 30 thousand 329 rupees) because the source of various properties registered in his name could not be traced.

Furthermore, the charge sheet mentions that Bishnu Kumar Shrestha also transferred illegal assets in the names of his family members. The charge sheet was filed at the Special Court, accusing his wife Laxmi Kumari Shrestha, father Hari Kumar Shrestha, mother Indra Kumari Shrestha, and son Vivek Shrestha.

According to the investigation conducted by the CIAA, Bishnu Kumar Shrestha is accused of earning more than NPR 112.56 million (11 crore 25 lakh 65 thousand rupees) up to Magh 2077 BS. This income includes various sources such as salary, remuneration, company profits, agricultural income, and share sales.
