Madhavnarayan Nagar Yatra Concludes in Thecho, Lalitpur with Traditional Zeal

Lalitpur. The Nagar Yatra (town procession) of Madhavnarayan was completed in Thecho, a historic settlement in Lalitpur, in accordance with religious and cultural traditions. The residents of Thecho participated enthusiastically in this procession, which is celebrated on the special occasion of the Shree Swasthani Brata Katha.

In this year's town procession, a child was placed atop a goat (khasi), which was paraded around the town while conch shells were blown and water was sprinkled. According to local belief, the goat is worshipped as a symbol of the sacred pilgrimage site Gosainkunda, and the child riding it is revered as a symbol of Lord Shiva. During the procession, devotees, wearing various costumes, carried lamps and kalash (sacred pots) while touring different parts of the town.

The Madhavnarayan fair and yatra, which began on Poush Shukla Purnima, continues until Magh Shukla Purnima. This fair is celebrated with special religious devotion in Thecho, Lalitpur, as well as in Sankhu, Bhaktapur, and various places in Kathmandu. Traditionally, the grand procession with tableaux is taken out especially on Magh Shukla Dwadashi and Trayodashi.
