Task Force Submits Report Recommending Reopening of Gorkhali Rubber Industry with New Technology

Kathmandu. The task force formed to suggest the reopening of the Gorkhali Rubber Industry has submitted its report, prepared over 10 months, to Minister of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies Anil Kumar Sinha. The 13-page recommendation report, prepared by the five-member task force led by former National Planning Commission member Janak Raj Shah, was presented to Minister Sinha on Wednesday.

The suggestion mentioned that it would be appropriate to restart the industry, including the Gorkhali trademark, based on new technology similar to the previous nature, utilizing the industry's fixed assets (buildings, land).

‘It appears necessary to completely replace the current machinery and install new technologically advanced machines,’ the recommendation stated, ‘For this, it is appropriate to operate under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by searching for a strategic investor with capital and technology through government initiative.’

The said industry had completely shut down since 2072 BS.
