Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar Targeted with Liquid Attack During Town Hall in Minnesota Amid Tensions Over Fatal Shootings

The situation in Minnesota is deteriorating following the fatal shooting of two US citizens by federal agents. Amid the tense atmosphere, Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar was physically attacked during a public event, according to BBC news.

As Omar was addressing a town hall meeting in Minneapolis, an individual rushed towards her. It is reported that the person sprayed an unknown liquid targeting Congresswoman Omar. Security personnel immediately apprehended the attacker and removed him. Despite the incident, Omar continued her address.

In recent days, there has been significant outrage in Minnesota regarding actions by security forces. The shooting death of 37-year-old Alex Pretea by Border Patrol agents, and the death of another 37-year-old citizen, Rene Gude, from a gunshot wound by immigration officers a few weeks prior, have created an environment of protest across the state.

Following these incidents, President Donald Trump stated he would 'somewhat reduce' the federal government's presence in Minnesota. Speaking to Fox News, Trump described both shootings as horrific. However, on the other hand, he has dispatched his 'Border Czar' Tom Homan to lead on-the-ground immigration operations in Minnesota, while Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino has been transferred elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the calls for the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen have sharply increased. Democrats and some Republican lawmakers are demanding Nielsen's dismissal in protest of the aggressive immigration raids occurring in the state. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has warned of initiating impeachment proceedings if the President does not remove her from office. Nevertheless, President Trump has reiterated his full confidence in Nielsen.
