Nepali Congress Lawmaker: Fair Elections Are the Only Way to Steer the Constitution Right

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress National Assembly Member Kiran Babu Shrestha has stated that fair elections are the only way to steer the constitution in the right direction.

Speaking during the special session of the National Assembly on Tuesday, he mentioned that the country has plunged into elections according to the desires of all political parties.

He accused the ministers responsible for conducting the elections of abandoning their responsibilities at the last moment and fleeing.

He stated that the act of abandoning the responsibility of conducting elections to jump into the electoral arena themselves raises serious ethical questions. He also mentioned that ministers resigning to contest elections has created doubt about whether the elections will be fair.

He stated that although resigning to contest elections is a constitutional right, it raises serious ethical questions.

He said that the fact that those who became ministers are joining various parties or forming their own parties to contest the elections is gradually revealing the 'curtains' behind incidents like the Janji movement and arson attacks on government machinery.
