RSS joins contribution-based SSF

Kathmandu, Jan 16: Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), the news agency of Nepal, has decided to associate its human resource working on daily wage and contractual service to the contribution-based Social Security Fund (SSF).

Some 17 employees working on daily wage and contract basis at RSS will benefit from this decision which was taken after the Government of Nepal implemented arrangements to include personnel working in public enterprises in the SSF.

In this connection, RSS executive chairperson Dharmendra Jha stated that necessary policy arrangements were made to include temporary and wage-based employees having invaluable contributions to RSS service in the contribution-based SSF.

He clarified that the decision was taken immediately upon receiving directives from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to prioritize its implementation.

Prior to the decision, discussions were held with concerned stakeholders in different phases to provide relief to employees under the Social Security Fund through this fiscal year's programme and budget, he shared.

Chairperson Jha noted that local reporters (stringers) of RSS could also be included in the SSF provided budgetary arrangements from the government to that end.

He emphasized that those dedicatedly working in journalism should be included in the Fund.

Likewise, RSS general manager Sandeep Rai stated that the decision regarding the fund, which honors the labour of contractual and daily wage employees of RSS will be implemented soon.

He claimed that RSS tuned successful in taking the initiative to enroll employees in the SSF.

The SSF has stated that various plans and programmes such as medical treatment and health security, maternity protection, accident insurance, disability protection, and dependent family security are being implemented for beneficiaries affiliated with the contribution-based social security fund.

Currently, around 2.65 million contributors are associated with the fund in Nepal.
