NMA cannot be given a monopoly: Minister Sinha
Kathmandu, Jan 12: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Aviation Anil Kumar Sinha ruled out granting any monopoly to Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).
Minister Sinha said so in the meeting of Committee for Legislation Management under the National Assembly at Singha Durbar on Monday.
Sinha argued that since the NMA is registered under the Organization Registration Act-2034 BS like any citizens do, it would not be legitimate to grant it a monopoly.
The Minister further clarified that it would not be appropriate to make legal arrangement for a single organization in the changed context of the country and in line with the spirit of federalism.
Minister Sinha however acknowledged the 'incomparable' works and contributions of the Association. Nevertheless, he said that we must first see how the organization has come into being.
He reminded that a handful of individuals started off the NMA registering it under the Organization Registration Act and have been delivering on a large scale since its establishment.
"There are so many other organizations of similar nature. Therefore, giving NMA a monopoly is out of question!" he said.
