Improving the country's economy is pressing need: Finance Minister Khanal

Kathmandu, Jan 6: Finance Minister Rameshwor Prasad Khanal has said that improving the country's economy is a pressing need, while providing protection and security to economic activities.

Addressing the meeting of the Central Revenue Leakage Control Committee of the Armed Police Force at the Armed Police Force Nepal Headquarters, Halchowk, Kathmandu today, Finance Minister Khanal emphasized the need to improve the shortcomings in the inter-agency coordination system to control revenue leakage.

He said that since it is not possible to control revenue leakage with the efforts of any single agency alone, the goal can be achieved with the joint efforts of the concerned agencies.

At the meeting, Finance Secretary Dr Ghanashyam Upadhyaya mentioned that controlling revenue leakage is a common responsibility of everyone.

Similarly, Revenue Secretary Bhupal Baral said that there are challenges in both peace and security and revenue collection due to the open border.

Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki said that it is necessary to keep the warehouses in the border area at a certain distance from the border and intensify market monitoring, and to proceed with the auction process of illegal goods seized from the border.

Similarly, Inspector General of Armed Police Raju Aryal said that revenue collection and leakage control will be result-oriented only if all the employees deployed to control revenue leakage are mobilized with mutual coordination and cooperation.
