Actor Sonu Sood Questioned for Seven Hours in Betting App Case

In New Delhi, actor Sonu Sood was questioned for about seven hours by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a case related to the promotion of an online betting app called 'OneX Bet'. Sood arrived at the ED office with his legal team on Wednesday at noon. His statement was recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Ongoing Investigation Involving Other Celebrities

Earlier, on Tuesday, former cricketer Yuvraj Singh and actress Anveshi Jain had also given their statements to the ED in the same case. The investigation's scope includes other famous personalities like cricketers Shikhar Dhawan, Robin Uthappa, Suresh Raina, and Harbhajan Singh.

Focus of the Probe on Fraud and Tax Evasion

The investigation is centered on allegations of a massive fraud and tax evasion worth crores of rupees conducted through illegal betting apps. The companies involved are accused of cheating investors and collecting large sums of money illegally. However, OneX Bet has claimed to be a globally recognized bookmaker with over 18 years of experience.

New Law Bans Online Betting Apps

The Indian government recently passed the Online Gaming Bill 2025, which has banned all types of online betting apps, including those for games like Dream11, Rummy, and Poker. It is important to note that while the Supreme Court had earlier, in 2017, categorized games like Dream11 as games of skill, online betting was never considered legal in India.
