Pilgrims throng Matatirtha pond
Kathmandu– Devotees have thronged the Matatirtha Kunda or the sacred pond since the morning today at Chandragiri Municipality to take a holy bath and make offerings in the name of their deceased mothers.
A religious fair takes place at this pilgrimage site every year on the occasion of the Mata Tirtha Aaunsi or the Mothers' Day which falls on the new moon day in the month of Baisakh as per the lunar calendar.
After taking a holy dip in the pond the devotees make offerings and pay homage in the name of their deceased mother wishing for her liberation.
There is a religious belief that one can see the face of one's deceased mum reflected in the pond if that person imagines of his/her mother with a pious heart and deep devotion.
Deputy Mayor of Chandragiri Municipality, Lisa Nakarmi, said security personnel and volunteers have been mobilised to help out the pilgrims.
She said the municipality is doing home work for developing Matatirtha into a major religious tourism site.
