Nepal Faces Bangladesh in SAFF U-17 Championship
Nepal is set to play against Bangladesh today in its second group stage match of the ongoing SAFF U-17 Championship 2025 in Sri Lanka. The match will be held at the Colombo Racecourse Stadium and will begin at 7:15 PM Nepal time.
Strong Start in the Tournament
In its first match of the tournament, Nepal defeated the host team, Sri Lanka, with a score of 2-0. Both goals in that match were scored by Sameer Kumar.
Tournament Format and Participants
A total of seven teams are participating in the championship. Nepal is in Group A, which also includes Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Group B consists of India, Pakistan, Bhutan, and the Maldives. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals. The winner of each group will play against the runner-up from the other group. The final match of the tournament is scheduled for September 27.
Historical Champions
India is the most successful team in the history of this championship, having won the title a record six times. Bangladesh has been the runner-up twice. Pakistan won the tournament once, back in 2011.
Nepal's Track Record
This is the tenth consecutive time Nepal is participating in this competition. The team has reached the final on four previous occasions, in 2013, 2017, 2019, and 2022, but finished as the runner-up each time.
