Jimmy Kimmel Suspended Following Comments on Charlie Kirk

Television Host Suspended Indefinitely

ABC Television has suspended Jimmy Kimmel, the host of its nightly talk show, for an indefinite period. This decision comes because of comments Kimmel made about the death of Charlie Kirk, a influential right-wing figure, who was killed in a shooting. A spokesperson for the Disney-owned network confirmed the suspension in a statement, saying, "Jimmy Kimmel Live has been suspended indefinitely." Kimmel did not comment as he left the television studio in Los Angeles.

The Controversial Monologue

Earlier this week, during his show, Kimmel claimed that the "MAGA Gang" was trying to use Kirk's killing for political gain. Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative activist, was shot and killed last week. A 22-year-old suspect was brought to court on Tuesday in connection with the shooting. In his Monday night monologue, Kimmel stated, "The MAGA Gang is desperately trying to paint the kid who killed Charlie Kirk as one of their own to score political points." He also criticized the decision to fly flags at half-mast in Kirk's honor and made fun of former President Donald Trump's response to the event. Kimmel, who often mocks Trump, said, "This isn't how adults mourn the death of someone they call a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a dead goldfish." On the day of the shooting, Kimmel had posted on Instagram condemning the violence and offering condolences to the family. Officials have not yet clarified the motive behind the September 10th shooting.

Details About the Suspect

According to court documents, the suspect's mother said her son had "become active in politics over the past year and was leaning left." She also mentioned that "he was becoming a supporter of gay and trans rights." Authorities confirmed that the suspect, Tyler Robinson, was not registered with any political party and had not voted in the 2022 or 2024 elections.

Trump's Reaction

Shortly after ABC announced Kimmel's suspension, Donald Trump called it "great news for America." On social media, the former president wrote, "The low-rated Jimmy Kimmel Show has been canceled. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what needed to be done." Trump also used the opportunity to criticize two other late-night hosts, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers.
