Koteshwor Underpass to Be Completed by 2090 BS, Here's What the New Structure Will Look Like

The Koteshwor Underpass is scheduled for completion in the Nepali year 2090. According to the government's timeline, this infrastructure project is targeted to be finished by the 15th of Bhadau in 2090 BS (approximately August 2023 CE).

Funding and Loan Agreement

The project is being constructed with financial support from the Japanese government, which is providing a loan of nearly 30 billion Nepalese rupees. The loan agreement for this initiative is set to be finalized in September of this year.

Project Timeline and Key Milestones

The detailed schedule outlines that a consulting company will be selected for Detailed Project Report (DPR) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) by the upcoming month of Chaitra (March 2024). The process for these assessments is expected to be completed within one year. Following this, the tender process for selecting a construction company will begin. The goal is to sign the contract agreement by April 2028, with construction planned to be completed within a 52-month period.

Project Components and Design

The project will include several key structures. A 664-meter long flyover will be built from Tinkune to Tribhuvan International Airport. Additionally, a 700-meter long tunnel will be constructed inside the airport area. Another flyover, measuring 238 meters, will connect Tribhuvan International Airport to Manohara via Jadibuti.

Current Project Status

Currently, for this project, the Japanese cooperation agency JICA has selected a consultant and prepared a preliminary survey report, as announced by the Department of Roads.
