Trump Comments on India's Russian Oil Purchases Before Putin Meeting
Upcoming Talks Between Trump and Putin
U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are set to meet soon for discussions. Ahead of this meeting, Trump has shared his views on India’s purchase of Russian oil and its impact on Russia’s economy.
Trump Criticizes India’s Russian Oil Imports
Trump stated that the additional tariffs imposed by U.S. customs on Indian goods, due to India continuing to buy Russian oil, are hurting Russia’s economy. "Russia’s economy is not in good shape. It’s being heavily affected," Trump said during a press briefing at the White House on Monday. He added that if the U.S. had taken stronger action, such as imposing a 50% tariff on countries buying Russian oil, it would have been a major blow to Russia.
Trump Open to Negotiations with Putin
Trump mentioned that he was prepared to take even stronger measures but received a call from Putin expressing interest in meeting. "I’m willing to see what he wants to discuss. I’d like to see a ceasefire. I’d like to see an agreement that works for both sides," Trump said.
Meeting Scheduled in Alaska
The meeting between Trump and Putin is scheduled for August 15 in Alaska, where they will discuss key issues, including economic sanctions and potential diplomatic resolutions.
