MP Basnet Urges Government to Address Healthcare Staff Shortages
Nepali Congress (Maoist Center) MP Shakti Basnet has drawn the government's attention to severe staffing shortages in the health sector that are preventing citizens from receiving basic medical services. Speaking during Wednesday's House of Representatives session, MP Basnet highlighted critical gaps in healthcare delivery across the country.
Critical Staffing Gaps at All Levels
Basnet emphasized that health posts and district hospitals lack sufficient doctors, leaving citizens without proper treatment. He noted that even upgraded hospitals face staffing shortages, while many local health facilities cannot expand services due to unfilled Organizational and Management (ONM) positions.
Call for Coordinated Government Action
The MP demanded urgent three-tier government coordination (local, provincial, and federal) to:
-
Expedite ONM approvals and staff recruitment processes
-
Implement special incentive packages for health workers in remote areas
-
Guarantee citizens' constitutional right to healthcare
Special Focus on Remote Areas
Basnet specifically advocated for better incentives to attract and retain medical professionals in hard-to-reach regions, where healthcare access remains particularly challenging.
This intervention comes as many Nepalis continue facing difficulties obtaining basic medical care due to systemic staffing issues across health facilities.
