Indra Bahadur Baniya Appointed as Chief Minister of Bagmati Province
Makwanpur – Indra Bahadur Baniya, leader of the Nepali Congress Bagmati Parliamentary Party, has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Bagmati Province. The provincial head, Deepak Prasad Devkota, officially appointed Baniya to the position on Tuesday.
Political Support and Appointment Process
Baniya had submitted his claim for the chief ministerial position on Monday with the support of 37 Nepali Congress lawmakers and 27 CPN-UML members. His appointment follows the resignation of former Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama, which had left the post vacant.
Constitutional Basis for Appointment
The appointment was made under Article 168 (2) of Nepal’s Constitution. Earlier, Jagannath Thapaliya, leader of the UML Bagmati Parliamentary Party, had also staked his claim for the position with the required signatures.
Oath-Taking and Next Steps
Baniya’s swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 4 PM today. After taking the oath, he will begin the process of appointing ministers to form the provincial cabinet.
