Continuous Rainfall Causes Disruptions in Surkhet

Surkhet, Heavy rainfall since Monday night has disrupted daily life in Surkhet. The downpour triggered landslides that blocked the Kohalpur-Surkhet Ratna Highway. According to the District Police Office Surkhet, a landslide carrying rocks and mud completely closed the highway near Bheriganga Municipality-2, Paisaththi, at 6 AM Tuesday.

Highway Reopened After Clearance

A police team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Prem Bahadur Gurung from Chinchu Police Station quickly responded to the incident. With the help of a JCB, they cleared the debris, and the highway has now reopened for traffic, confirmed Deputy Superintendent Mohanjung Budhathapa.

House Collapses Due to Heavy Rain

In a separate incident, relentless rainfall caused a three-story mud house to collapse in Gurbhakot Municipality-1, Kalche Ghumaune, at 8:45 AM Tuesday. The eastern wall of 32-year-old Dalmaya Budha’s house, made of stone and mud with a tin roof, crumbled. Fortunately, no human or livestock casualties were reported.

Family Safely Relocated

The house, which had five rooms, was home to four family members—Dalmaya, her husband, and their two children. After the collapse, the family took shelter at a relative’s home. Police from Malarani Post assisted in their safe evacuation.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as rainfall persists in the region.
