Rekha Thapa Returns to Music Videos After 25 Years
Kathmandu, – Veteran actress Rekha Thapa, celebrated as Nepal’s first female superstar, is set to grace music videos again after a 25-year hiatus since her debut in Anand Karki’s iconic "Laagchha Mann Herirahun."
She stars in "Nai Bhane Si Nai" (If You Say No, Then No), a socially charged song composed and directed by filmmaker-singer Prakash Saput. The video, slated for release ahead of Teej, tackles themes of self-respect for girls, young women, and mothers.
Why This Project?
Rekha’s Commitment: "The song advocates for women’s dignity. I’ve always stood for daughters’ rights," said Thapa, who has already completed filming. Saput’s Vision: Originally planned for last Teej but delayed due to his film "Vasant," Saput revealed he crafted 5-7 melodies for this track, featuring vocalists Elina Chauhan and Samiksha Adhikari.
Behind the Scenes
The video’s Teej-centric narrative aligns with Saput’s signature socially conscious storytelling ("Basanti" fame). Rekha’s return marks a full-circle moment her last music video role was in the 1990s hit.
