Indian National Arrested at Kathmandu Airport with 5kg of Cannabis from Thailand
Narcotics Seized at Tribhuvan International Airport
Kathmandu; Police have arrested an Indian national at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for allegedly smuggling 5 kilograms of cannabis from Thailand. The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Liaon Fungthar, who arrived in Kathmandu on AirAsia Flight on Asar 30 (June 14).
Caught During Security Screening
According to SP Janak Bahadur Shahi of the Narcotics Control Bureau, Fungthar was detained during a routine security check at the airport. Authorities discovered the concealed cannabis in her luggage.
Investigation Underway
Police are investigating the case under Nepal’s Narcotic Drugs Control Act, 2033 (1976). If convicted, the suspect could face severe legal penalties, including imprisonment. This arrest follows several recent cases where foreign nationals have been caught attempting to smuggle drugs into Nepal via air routes.
