HoR Session: Panta and Shahi in heated exchange over monarchy discussion

Kathmandu, March 16 — A heated dispute erupted in the House of Representatives as CPN (UML) MP Raghuji Panta took the floor, only to be interrupted by an objection from Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) MP Gyan Bahadur Shahi.
Panta was discussing the monarchy and when he mentioned the mistakes made by the kings, MP Shahi objected, leading to a heated exchange.
Shahi attempted to raise an objection, saying that Panta was making baseless statements, but Speaker Devraj Ghimire did not allow him to speak.
However, Shahi continued to raise objections, causing a brief commotion.
MP Shahi asked for time to speak, to which Speaker Ghimire responded, "I have not given you permission to speak, let the honorable member who was given the floor speak."
In the midst of the commotion, MP Panta challenged Shahi to come prepared with historical knowledge for a debate.
After the brief altercation, Speaker Ghimire provided some clarification, stating, "We speak based on the rules of procedure. What has been said is based on facts, and while some people may find it false or incorrect, it should be proven or disproven in a proper manner. The decision to allow or disallow speech is based on the rules."
Finally, Speaker Ghimire allowed Panta more time to speak after his time was cut short.
