HoR session: Congress MPs protest after RSP MP Shrestha’s claim of land misuse

Kathmandu, March 12 — A dispute erupted in the House of Representatives after Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) MP Sumana Shrestha claimed that Nepali Congress (NC) leaders had used public land.

This remark led to objections from NC MPs, including Rajendra KC, Rajendra Bajgain, and Sushila Thing.

As soon as Shrestha made the statement, NC MP KC stood up in protest.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire asked if this was a matter of objection and called for clarification.

Following this, several other NC MPs stood up to object, but the Speaker did not allow them to speak through the microphone.

Despite not being given the floor, MP KC was heard stating that if such accusations were made, they must be substantiated with facts.

He demanded that if the claims could not be verified, they should be removed from the parliamentary records.

However, Speaker Ghimire did not order the removal of the remarks.

The Speaker emphasized that debates in Parliament should be conducted responsibly and that facts should be presented publicly and correctly.

After several requests, the NC MPs resumed their seats, and the session continued.

Shrestha had raised the issue of land in Tarakeshwor-9, Kathmandu, claiming that Nepali Congress leaders had allegedly occupied government land in the area, specifically plot numbers 63 and 63, without any intervention from the local government.

She stated that the local residents had expressed their grievances regarding the matter.
