Monarchy revival efforts behind government's loss of credibility: Prachanda

Kathmandu, March 11 — Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', the leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center), has questioned whether the government has lost the ability to engage with the people or if it simply does not wish to have a dialogue.
While addressing the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Prachanda stated that the government's credibility has diminished to the point where monarchist forces are becoming more emboldened.
"Those who once feared dreaming of a monarchy revival in closed rooms for years are now on the streets, openly challenging the reinstatement of the monarchy," Prachanda remarked. "There is a coordinated effort behind this, with both domestic and international maneuvers involved."
He raised questions about why this movement had suddenly gained momentum, despite such activities having been present in the past.
Prachanda believes that the autocratic governance style of the ruling parties is the main cause behind this situation.
Prachanda rejected the idea of monarchy as an alternative to republicanism, urging the monarchists to find their place within democracy.
"Monarchists should seek their place within democracy, we have no objections," he said, emphasizing that democracy, as much for King Gyanendra as it is for him, is accepted by all political parties.
He warned that if unconstitutional paths were pursued, it could lead to revolution.
Prachanda also noted that while monarchists are present both on the streets and in the legislature, they are attempting to turn back the pages of history.
He added that the poor governance of those in power is also challenging the democratic system.
