National Assembly approves key ordinances on economy and governance

Kathmandu, March 6 — Two of the five ordinances introduced by the government were quickly approved in the National Assembly.
During Thursday's session, the ordinances were presented for approval and received overwhelming support.
Among the ordinances passed were the 'Economic Procedures and Fiscal Responsibility (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2081' and the 'Ordinance to Amend Certain Nepal Acts Related to Promoting Good Governance and Public Service Delivery, 2081.'
Both were approved by a majority vote.
Despite opposition lawmakers urging the rejection of the ordinances, arguing that the government is governing the country through ordinances, their proposals for rejection were overruled.
Following the approval of these ordinances, discussions are ongoing in the National Assembly on the 'Ordinance on Privatization (First Amendment), 2081' and 'Ordinance to Amend Certain Nepal Acts Relating to Improving the Economic and Business Environment and Promoting Investment,' 2081 as well as 'Ordinance to Amend Some Nepal Acts Related to Cooperatives, 2081.'
The government is preparing to push these ordinances for approval in the National Assembly today.
Five ordinances were already approved by the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
Once approved by both houses, the government will proceed with these ordinances as replacement bills.
