BP highway repair in full swing

Kathmandu, March 4 — Repair work on the BP Highway, damaged by floods and landslides in the last week of Septmber, has been accelerated.

The Division Road Office Bhaktapur has focused on temporary repairs from Chaukidanda of Namobuddha Municipality to Nepalthok at the border of Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli districts.

To ensure regular transportation without disruption during the upcoming monsoon, repair work is being carried out in the Roshi area.

The office is using loaders and dozers for the repair process, as informed by Senior Divisional Engineer Suman Yogesh.

According to Yogesh, the diversion created on the riverbed and the original road will be elevated by filling gravel up to two to three meters, with a grid structure being used in areas with difficult terrain.

The repair includes widening and leveling the damaged road and raising its height by about three meters above the river’s surface.

Out of the 13 km of damaged road, eight km will be repaired in the first phase, and the remaining will be planned for further repairs.

The government has allocated a budget of NPR 212.5 million for the temporary repair of the Dhulikhel-Nepalthok and Nepalthok-Khurkot sections.

Once the design is finalized, a cost estimate will be prepared, and the tender process will begin.

Studies conducted by the Division Road Office suggest that reconstructing the road from Bhakunde to Nepalthok will cost approximately NPR 966 million.

Discussions will follow regarding whether to build a bridge or install retaining walls at certain locations, as highlighted by Yogesh.

The newly reconstructed road will feature two lanes with asphalt concrete, replacing the previously existing intermediate lane road.
