Renewed protest announced against Pathibhara cable car construction

Biratnagar, February 10 — After no conclusion was reached from the talks and discussions held on Sunday and Monday, a renewed protest has been announced against the construction of the cable car in Pathibhara.

Eleven organizations and ten inter-party political parties opposing the cable car have jointly declared the protest.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, they announced that their protest would begin on February 11.

The actions include boycotting Global IME Bank and IME Group from February 11 to 21, a "Mukkumulung Bachao" (Save Mukkumulung) march from February 18 to 20, surrounding the Phungling Municipality Office to press for the cancellation of the cable car's permit and agreement, urging not to transport construction materials for the cable car, and organizing protests in Kathmandu, Itahari, and Birtamod.

Additionally, they plan to submit memorandums and hold protests at all district administration offices in Koshi Province for the cancellation of the cable car agreement.

If their demands are not met, they plan to launch an indefinite transport strike and general strike.

The protest against the construction of the cable car began after the project started in Pathibhara.

During the protest on January 25, clashes occurred with the police, during which two people were injured by police gunfire.

They are currently receiving treatment in Kathmandu.

In response to the protests, a general strike was held across Koshi Province, disrupting daily life, prompting the government to form a negotiation team.

However, the protesting parties claim that the government has not been honest in the talks.
