Residential doctors announce Kathmandu-centered protest

Kathmandu, February 3 — Residential doctors have announced a Kathmandu-centered protest.

After six days of protest against extreme labor exploitation of doctors, the residential doctors have declared a Kathmandu-based movement with a final warning.

The "Safe Workplace for Healthcare Workers Struggle Committee" has announced the protest for all doctors in Kathmandu starting tomorrow. The committee, which has been raising its voice for the rights of residents studying at various medical colleges in Nepal, has called on doctors from across the country to join the protest at Maitighar Mandala.

Committee spokesperson Dr. Sanjay Baral stated that despite six days of protests, the government remained silent, prompting the decision for the Kathmandu-centered protest. Interns, medical officers, and resident doctors from all over the country have been called to join the protest in Kathmandu.

Spokesperson Baral stated that they would continue their protests at Maitighar Mandala and at their respective medical colleges until their demands are met. He also mentioned that they are boycotting OPD services and conducting "pen-down" protests. However, the government has not made any decisions to address their demands so far.

The committee has decided to intensify its protests until the government and the Medical Education Commission ensure their rights and stop the extreme labor exploitation. They requested that everyone understand the difficulty faced in this battle against labor exploitation and a serious attack on their dignity.

The committee has demanded the repeal of the three-point decision made by the Minister of Health and Population and the Minister of Education, Science, and Technology. The committee claims that the decision is an insult to all Nepali doctors and has called for its revocation.
