Remand hearing of RSP President Lamichhane commences

Rupandehi, January 23 — The remand hearing for Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has commenced.

The hearing started after Lamichhane appeared in court. 

Lamichhane is accused of embezzling funds from Supreme Cooperative in Butwal through the Gorkha Media Network Pvt. Ltd. Lamichhane was the former managing director of Gorkha Media.

The remand hearing is taking place in the courtroom of District Court Rupandehi, presided over by Judge Prahlad Kumar Yogi. After Lamichhane’s statement was recorded on Wednesday, the court had assigned his family and defense lawyers the responsibility for his custody.

The court session started with a team of half a dozen lawyers representing the plaintiff, the government attorney. The public prosecutors present are Prem Raj Paudel, Gokarna Ghimire 'Basanta', Somkanta Bhandari, Prakash Marasini, and Rabi Neupane.

On Wednesday, Lamichhane could not attend the remand hearing due to time constraints. Later, Judge Prahlad Kumar Yogi assigned his wife and a legal professional to be responsible for him. Lamichhane entered the court at 10:25 a.m. today, and the hearing will proceed under the leadership of Sushil Panta.

Based on today’s hearing, the court will decide whether Lamichhane will remain in custody or be released.
