Dr. Tirtha Khaniya receives Noam Chomsky Global Connection Award
Kathmandu, January 17 — Dr. Tirtha Khaniya, the former Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, has been awarded an international recognition for his significant contribution to the development and expansion of higher education.
At the Global Conference held at Kathmandu University in Dhulikhel, Dr. Khaniya was presented with the Northern Star Medal of Lifetime Achievement for 2024 under the Noam Chomsky Global Connection Award, by the Association of American Colleges and Universities, on behalf of Star Scholars.
The award was presented by the association's president, Lynn Pasquerella. The announcement of the award was made from the United States.
Dr. Khaniya was honored for his lifelong contribution to the development and expansion of higher education, as well as for his two recent books: Shifting Paradigms in Higher Education: Humanism, Scientism, and Academic Capitalism and Navigating Higher Education in Nepal: Historical Perspectives and Future Directions.
These works have significantly contributed to the promotion of quality higher education both globally and in Nepal.
His first book focuses on global higher education, while the second deals with higher education in Nepal.
It may be noted that, in recognition of his lifelong contributions to education, Dr. Khaniya has received numerous awards, including Nepal's highest-ranking civilian honor, Sukritimaya Rashtradip (Meritorious Act Light of Nepal), conferred by the President of Nepal in 2017.
