Kathmandu, January 12 — The President of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, has appeared at the Kathmandu District Court.

He has been summoned to the court due to charges of fraud related to the Swarnalaxmi Cooperative in Kathmandu.

Lamichhane, who was recently released on bail on January 9 in connection with the fraud case of the Surya Darshan Cooperative in Pokhara, was instructed to appear in court on Friday. However, due to his late arrival to Kathmandu, he could only appear in court today.

At the district court, Lamichhane's statement will be recorded first. After the statement, a discussion on the detention will take place as per the legal procedure. After this, the court will issue an order regarding whether to release him or send him to custody.

Sunita Newa, a member of the audit committee, and Kamal Lama, a member of the loan sub-committee, who were arrested on charges of embezzling funds from Swarnalaxmi, have already been released on bail.

Along with Lamichhane and former DIG Chhabilal Joshi, a total of 39 individuals have been named as defendants in the case related to Swarnalaxmi.

In addition to the Swarnalaxmi case, Lamichhane is also facing fraud charges in connection with cooperatives in Rupandehi's Supreme Cooperative, Chitwan's Sahara Chitwan, and Parsa's Sano Paila Cooperative, and preparations are being made to file cases in these instances as well.
