Inmates' relocation to Nuwakot central jail continues

Trishuli (Nuwakot), January 8 — The process of relocating inmates to central jail that has been brought into operation in Nuwakot is continuing.

Section Officer Indra Bahadur Khatiwada informed that as many as 758 prisoners have been shifted to the Nuwakot-based open jail which came into operation since last September 31 with the completion of infrastructure development in the second phase.

A total of 48 prisoners languished at the Nuwakot district jail were relocated while bringing the new central jail into operation. The process of bringing prisoners from the surrounding districts is also underway.

"In the next few days, necessary preparations for the management of prisoners at its full capacity will be taken to the final stage," he said.

Director General of the Department of Prison Management Narayan Prasad Bhattarai informed that the inmates of the central jail (Jagannath Deval), Nakkhu Jail Lalitpur and Dillibazar Jail Kathmandu) are being shifted.

The government has devised a plan to gradually build necessary infrastructure to establish the central jail as a modern and industrial prison.

Accordingly, groundwork is underway to proceed with the construction of physical infrastructure in the third phase.

In 2012 AD, the cabinet had decided to to shift the central jail in Kathmandu to Khampa Camp at Bidur Municipality-6.

The task will be completed in five phases.
