Despite two-thirds majority government, nothing has been done: Balen Shah

Kathmandu, December 27 — The Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balen Shah, has drawn the attention of the federal government, stating that compensation for land seized by the government from an individual in Tinkune has not yet been provided.
Addressing the Koteshwor Festival on Friday, Mayor Shah mentioned that despite the land being taken 50 years ago, the government has shown no interest in resolving the matter.
"Special thanks to the landowner. You have not received compensation for the past 50 years. When the government was weak, it feared the opposition's stance and whether they would accept the decision or not. Now we have a two-thirds majority government, and yet nothing has been done," he said. "This is land that was seized and taken. I can only wish for the process to be completed soon to provide compensation."
Mayor Shah also argued that, even though the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Finance Minister, and the political party leading the local government are all part of the current government, the compensation issue has not been addressed and will likely remain unresolved.
"The Home Minister is from the same party, the Prime Minister is from the same party, the Finance Minister is from the same party, and the resources are theirs as well. Our ward committees are also part of the same government. If no action is taken now, it will never happen," Shah added.
