Weather Forecast: Extreme Heat in Tarai, Rain in Hills

Kathmandu. The weather in the major cities of the country is expected to be very volatile on Wednesday. According to the forecast of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, some parts of the country will experience extreme heat today, while most of the hilly and eastern regions will experience rain with thunderstorms and lightning.

Especially in the western and central cities of the Terai, it will be extremely hot in the afternoon today. According to the forecast, Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj will have hot days today, with maximum temperatures expected to reach 38 to 40 degrees Celsius. Similarly, in Bhairahawa, it will be hot throughout the day with temperatures between 36 to 38 degrees Celsius, and in Simara, between 34 to 36 degrees Celsius. There is no possibility of rain in these areas today, according to the forecast.

On the other hand, there is a possibility of rain in the hilly and eastern regions to escape the heat. Pokhara, Okhaldhunga, Biratnagar, Jiri, and Taplejung are expected to experience moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in the afternoon. The probability of rain in these places is up to 30 to 40 percent. 

Similarly, there is a possibility of light rain with thunderstorms and lightning in Kathmandu, Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Jumla, Dhankuta, Jomsom, and Dharan. The maximum temperature in the federal capital Kathmandu will be between 29 to 31 degrees Celsius today, with a 30 percent chance of rain. In Birendranagar, Ghorahi, and Janakpur, it will not rain in the afternoon, but there will be partial cloud cover in the sky.

The weather tonight will vary by region. The sky will clear in many cities in the western hills and Terai at night. The weather will be mostly clear at night in Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Dhangadhi, Birendranagar, Nepalgunj, Ghorahi, and Bhairahawa. 

However, in Pokhara, Kathmandu, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Dharan, and Taplejung, there is still a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning at night. Jumla, Simara, Jomsom, Janakpur, and Jiri will only have partial cloud cover at night. The lowest temperature today will be in Jomsom, where the minimum temperature at night is estimated to drop to 9 to 11 degrees Celsius.
