Home Minister directs for improvement in prisons

Kathmandu – Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa visited the Department of Prison Management Sunday and directed its employees to work in such a way so that results could be seen in the improvement of prisons.
He said he was well aware of various misconducts and malpractices in prisons, seeking their corrections.

"There is a report that some inmates are taken to Thamel for entertainment in restaurants and bars as a night tour. Those involved in such activities will be brought to book after investigations" he underscored.
He vowed to address complaints about control of a certain people over the majority of inmates.

He insisted on the need of transforming the prison into a 'correction facility' rather than a 'torture home'.
On the occasion, Department Director Krishna Prasad Acharya presented a draft about the action plan related to the prison reforms. Last week, after his visit to various prisons in the central capital, the Home Minister directed the Department to come up with the draft within a week.
