Govt. attorney seeks 24-year sentence for Rabi Lamichhane

Kathmandu, December 22 — The Kaski District Government Attorney's Office has filed a demand for a maximum sentence of 24 years in prison for Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane.

On Sunday, an indictment was submitted to the Kaski District Court, making this request.

Under the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2008, Lamichhane is being demanded a prison sentence of 2 to 15 years.

Additionally, a sentence of 4 to 6 years has been requested for his involvement in cooperative fraud.

According to Section 124 of the Cooperatives Act, 2017, if the fraud amounts to between 10 million to 100 million rupees, a 4 to 6-year prison sentence is prescribed.

In Lamichhane's case, a claim for 33.7 million rupees in damages has been made.

Furthermore, the government has also charged him with organized crime.

Under the Prevention of Organized Crime Act, 2013, a 50% increased penalty is stipulated for such offenses. Based on the indictment filed against him, a minimum sentence of 24 years is being requested.
