Speaker extends Udhauli/Yomari Punhi festival best wishes
Kathmandu, December 15 — Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, has extended best wishes to all on the occasion of the Udhauli/Yomari Punhi/ Dhanyapurnima festival today.
"May the festival inspire all to strengthen social unity and meet the collective goals and objectives." In a message of best wishes today, the Speaker has wished for peace, prosperity, and progress to all Nepali citizens at home and abroad.
"The Udhauli festival has highlighted the inter-relations between human beings and nature and its celebration is the expression of human's gratitude to nature," the Speaker said.
The festival also symbolizes the beginning of a new agricultural cycle.
He added that the Yomari Punhi festival that is observed on the full moon day in the bright half of the month of Mangsir each year by the Newar Community.
Within the Kirati Community, the festival is observed with different names such as Udhauli, Chasuwa, Pholsyadar, Sakela and Chasok Tangnam, the Speaker states.
