Karnali Yaks defeat Lumbini Lions by 5 runs, strengthen playoff chances

Kathmandu, December 13 — In the 22nd match of the Nepal Premier League, Karnali Yaks defeated Lumbini Lions by 5 runs, boosting their chances of making it to the playoffs.

Lumbini Lions, chasing a target of 129 runs, could only manage 123 runs in 20 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process.

For Lumbini, Tom Moores was the top scorer with 36 runs off 35 balls, hitting 4 fours and 1 six.

Sandip Jora contributed 24 runs from 21 balls, including 2 sixes.

Opener Ashutosh Ghiraiya made 16 runs from 21 balls, hitting 2 fours, while fellow opener Arjun Saud added 13 runs from 6 balls, with 3 fours.

Captain Rohit Paudel scored 10 runs from 8 balls before being dismissed, and Saad Bin Zafar made 16 runs from 11 balls before being run out.

Karnali Yaks' bowling attack was led by Zeeshan Maqsood, who took 2 wickets for just 12 runs in 3 overs.

Sompal Kami, Bipin Sharma, and William Bosisto each took 1 wicket.

Earlier, after losing the toss and being put in to bat, Karnali Yaks posted 128/8 in 20 overs.

William Bosisto was the top scorer for Karnali, contributing 44 runs off 30 balls, hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes.

Arjun Gharti supported with 25 runs off 25 balls, including 2 fours and 1 six, forming a 72-run partnership with Bosisto.

Opener Babar Hayat made 20 runs from 22 balls, while Chadwick Walton added 13 runs from 15 balls.

For Lumbini Lions, Bikash Aagri was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 14 runs in 2 overs, with all three wickets coming in the final over.

Tilak Bhandari took 2 wickets for 23 runs in 4 overs, while Saad Bin Zafar claimed 1 wicket for 29 runs.

Captain Rohit Paudel and Ramon Simmonds also took 1 wicket each.

Lumbini Lions, having already been eliminated from the playoff race, were unable to chase down the target, while Karnali Yaks remain in contention for a playoff spot.
