Kathmandu, December 11 — A case related to cybercrime has been filed against Durga Prasain, who recently claimed that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has invested in a Cambodian telecom company.
The case was filed on Wednesday by the District Attorney of Kathmandu, Khadindra Raj Katwal, under the Electronic Transaction Act, 2008.
Prasain has been charged under Section 47(1) of the Electronic Transaction Act, which carries a penalty of 5 years in prison and a fine of 100,000 Nepali Rupees.
The public prosecutor has also requested an additional punishment under Section 47(2), which stipulates enhanced penalties for repeated violations of cyber laws. According to this provision, offenders could face an extended sentence, amounting to 7.5 years in total.
This is the third case filed against Prasai in the Kathmandu District Court related to electronic transactions.
If evidence proves that the crime could result in more than three years of imprisonment, there is a legal provision for sending the accused to jail.
