Speaker Ghimire announces final stages of appointments for TRC
Kathmandu, December 10 — Speaker Devraj Ghimire has stated that the appointment of officials for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission for the Investigation of Disappeared Persons is in its final stages.
He made this announcement on Tuesday while addressing a program organized by the Prime Minister's Office at Singhadurbar to mark the 76th International Human Rights Day.
Ghimire mentioned that the commissions were being implemented effectively in accordance with the principles of transitional justice, with necessary amendments and revisions made to existing laws to investigate serious human rights violations during the conflict period.
He also highlighted that the new constitution, drafted by the Constituent Assembly, has embraced policies of proportional representation and positive discrimination to ensure the recognition, freedom, equality, and justice for marginalized and oppressed communities, including minorities and disadvantaged groups.
Speaker Ghimire emphasized that while the use of technology in the protection and promotion of human rights is essential, its misuse and the potential violation of others' rights remains a serious risk.
