No agreement has been made for loans under BRI: PM Oli
Kathmandu, December 5 — Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has clarified that no agreement has been made to take loans under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) framework with China.
After completing his four-day visit to China and returning to Nepal, Prime Minister Oli told journalists at Tribhuvan International Airport that no agreements had been signed to take loans for BRI projects.
He said, "I had mentioned earlier that we are not going to take loans. There was no discussion about loans either. We will have separate discussions for the implementation of BRI projects. What we have agreed upon is not a loan. No discussion on loans has taken place."
He further added, "Why always the talk of loans, loans? Why is this tune always being played?"
During his visit to China, the Prime Minister held separate meetings with President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Qiang, where discussions on bilateral interests took place.
The Prime Minister also informed that there was no mention of the Pokhara International Airport during his visit.
